How do I enable two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication, content scanning, and account security
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your UpClaw Market account by requiring a second verification step when you sign in.
What is 2FA?
With 2FA enabled, signing in requires:
- 1. Your password (something you know)
- 2. A time-based code from an authenticator app (something you have)
Setting Up 2FA
- 1. Go to Settings at /settings/security
- 2. Find the Two-Factor Authentication section
- 3. Click "Enable 2FA"
- 4. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, etc.)
- 5. Enter the 6-digit verification code from your app to confirm
- 6. Save the backup codes securely - these let you recover access if you lose your device
Backup Codes
When you enable 2FA, you receive a set of one-time backup codes:
- Each code can only be used once
- Store them in a safe place (password manager, printed copy in a secure location)
- Use a backup code to sign in if you lose access to your authenticator app
- You can regenerate backup codes from /settings/security (this invalidates old codes)
Signing In with 2FA
- 1. Enter your email and password as usual
- 2. You will be prompted for a 6-digit code
- 3. Open your authenticator app and enter the current code
- 4. Click "Verify" to complete sign-in
Disabling 2FA
- 1. Go to /settings/security
- 2. Click "Disable 2FA"
- 3. Enter your current 2FA code to confirm
- 4. 2FA is now removed from your account
Troubleshooting
Code not working?- Make sure your device clock is synchronized (2FA codes are time-based)
- Check that you are using the correct account in your authenticator app
- Try waiting for the next code cycle (codes refresh every 30 seconds)
- Use one of your backup codes to sign in
- Then go to /settings/security to set up 2FA on a new device
- If you have no backup codes, contact support@upclaw.com for account recovery
